Pension rules to protect workers
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) plans to amend the current Pensions Bill to prevent employers from trying to force employees to opt out of pension provision. It also plans to prohibit employers from offering higher salaries or one-off bonuses to encourage workers not to join company pension schemes. The new rules are set to come into force in 2012 when employees are automatically enrolled in their company scheme. Minister for Pensions Reform, Mike O'Brien, said: "Decisions on whether or not to save in a workplace pension need to be taken free of any unfair pressure."
