Young workers clueless about workplace safety
Research has revealed that young workers in their first jobs are accidents waiting to happen. The report from the British Safety Council (BSC) showed that a young person is seriously injured in a UK workplace every 40 minutes. Children on work experience are also at risk - another report by the BSC found that half of the businesses it surveyed did not offer safety training to employees and work placement children were therefore at risk. The health and safety charity is offering 14 to 19-year-olds in the UK the opportunity to gain a qualification in Entry Level Award Workplace Hazard Awareness in order to raise young people's awareness of workplace health and safety.
