New employment legislation could cost small firms more than £25 billion
Forthcoming changes to employment law could cost UK firms more than £25 billion in the four years up until 2014, the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) claims. Research by the BCC indicates that the Equality Bill in 2010, the Agency Workers Directive in 2011 and pension reform legislation in 2012 will be the most costly regulations for small businesses. The BCC is calling for a three-year moratorium on new employment laws in the UK.
